This is based on the M40 sniper rifle introduced in the mid 1960s for use by US Marine Corps. Basically, the M40 was a modified Remington 700 given a Mil-Spec. M40s were used in Vietnam and in later campaigns with great success, proving itself to be a reliable and deadly accurate weapon.
